Metroplex Board Moves Forward with Four Projects

September 15, 2026

Schenectady, N.Y., September 15, 2026 – The Metroplex Board of Directors met last week and approved four projects in Schenectady County.

The first project involves improving the sidewalks and streetscape on State Street where it borders Veterans Park as well as the 500 Block of State Street from Lafayette Street to Barrett Street. Improvements include new or reset pavers, concrete sidewalks, and landscaping. The project aligns with Schenectady County’s efforts to improve Veterans Park and further connects the downtown core to exciting improvements planned further up State Street, including the new grocery store. Metroplex is currently seeking bids for this work and following a public hearing the project will come before the Metroplex Board for final approval.

In Glenville, the Board approved calling for a public hearing on a new 105,000 square foot building to be built by the Galesi Group at the Glenville Business & Technology Park.

Metroplex and the Town of Glenville worked together to obtain a $1.6 million Restore NY grant to help fund the demolition of two 120,000 square-foot vacant former Navy Depot buildings. A new 114,000 square foot building is currently under construction at the site. The Galesi Group is now prepared to move forward with a second new building at the site totaling 105,000 square feet. Together the two new buildings represent a private investment of over $15 million in the Town of Glenville.

“We thank Empire State Development for providing the Restore NY funding which allowed us to work with the Galesi Group to replace two vacant, blighted former Navy buildings with two new buildings that will create tax base and jobs in Glenville,” said Ray Gillen, Metroplex Chair, “We thank the Galesi Group for this major investment and the Town of Glenville for working closely with us on this project.”

Following a public hearing, the new building at the Glenville business park will return to the Metroplex Board for final approval.

To support the continued development of lower State Street, the Board approved moving forward with parking lot upgrades including new paving, landscaping, and fencing bordering both sides of Liberty Street heading west from Erie Boulevard, creating a lot with 170 parking spaces.

CHA Consulting Inc. provided a design concept for the new parking lot and is finalizing construction drawings so that Metroplex can issue a public bid for a full renovation of the parking lots.

Following a public hearing, the Metroplex Board will consider approval for this project.

Finally, the Board moved forward with the Hamilton Hill Redevelopment Project which includes 171 new apartments and a new 17,000 square foot grocery store on a four-acre site on Hamilton
Hill. The total project value is $115 million to construct four new buildings, plus parking, greenspace, and new playground.

Following a public hearing, Metroplex will consider approval of the development.

Metroplex is the lead economic development agency in Schenectady County. The public authority invests a portion of the County’s sales tax in capital projects that create new tax base,
sales tax, jobs and improve the quality of life in Schenectady County.
