514 State Street in Downtown Schenectady Gets New Retail Tenant

June 11, 2018

SCHENECTADY, N.Y., June 11, 2018 – Sequence Development announced today that Bluebird Home Décor, a popular retail store, will be expanding operations and moving to 514 State Street in downtown Schenectady this summer.

Sequence Development is renovating the former office building located at the corner of State and Lafayette Streets. The gut renovation has exposed tin ceilings and original wood floors. The utilitarian design of the current façade will give way to a retail storefront that complements the Foster Building, a $7 million renovation completed late last year.

“The Foster complex was our first investment in downtown Schenectady, it certainly will not be the last,” said Jeffrey Buell, the President and CEO of Sequence Development. “We believe strongly in experiential retail that promotes walkability inside of our cities. No one is better at that- or creates an atmosphere to promote that- quite like Nicolle Broughton and Bluebird Home Décor. We consider ourselves incredibly lucky that she has chosen 514 State Street to expand her business.”

Bluebird will relocate to downtown Schenectady and occupy the 1,500 square feet of space on the first floor of the renovated building. The company has been in business for 4 years. It features many unique items to outfit homes or apartments with an emphasis on using vintage, antique and artisan products to decorate living spaces.

“I’m very excited to take the Bluebird concept to the next level,” Nicolle Broughton said. “The space at 514 State Street is going to be incredible, full of character and light. We want to make it a truly welcoming place. We are so happy to be a part of all of the exciting things happening in Schenectady.”

The Schenectady County Metroplex Development Authority is providing a $75,000 grant to Sequence Development to assist with façade renovations at 514 State Street.

Ray Gillen, Metroplex Chair said, “Jeff Buell and his team did a great job with the Foster complex and it is now 100% occupied.  We are pleased to work with Sequence Development to do a complete makeover of the adjoining property at 514 State Street and we welcome Bluebird Home Décor to Schenectady County.”

Bluebird is aiming to be open this July.
