Schenectady Downtown Revitalization Initiative (DRI)

The City of Schenectady was awarded $10 Million through Round 4 of New York State’s Downtown Revitalization Initiative (DRI) for the Capital Region. Metroplex was approved as the City’s administrator of several of the recommended projects. Learn more here.

Projects Underway: 

Jay Street Pedestrian Walkway Project – making improvements to the public space on Pedestrian Jay Street including adding amenities and lighting. View preliminary concepts here.

Alco Heritage Trail Extension and Alco Heritage Tunnel Project – improving the connectivity between Mohawk Harbor and downtown Schenectady. These projects will improve the connection of the trails between Riverside Park and Mohawk Harbor, through East Front Street, and will re-open the Alco Tunnel for improved pedestrian access from Union College and Little Italy to Erie Boulevard. Recent Announcements:

Metroplex hosted a Public Meeting to outline plans for upgrading Jay Street and the Alco Heritage Trail extension on May 28, 2024 at the Schenectady County Public Library. It was an open house style session, to provide community feedback on conceptual designs.
