SCHENECTADY, N.Y. — Assemblyman Angelo Santabarbara and Schenectady County Legislature Chair Gary Hughes today announced the release of a Request for Proposals (RFP) to engineering firms to provide a comprehensive review of the miSci building in Schenectady.

The County agreed to develop and fund the RFP so that professional licensed engineers can examine the existing museum building and determine the best and most cost-effective way to improve the structure to enhance the museum experience and protect miSci’s extensive collections and archives.

Expressing his dedication to the project, Assemblyman Angelo Santabarbara stated, “I’m proud to see this next step move forward to support miSci in Schenectady. Preserving our cultural institutions is important to the fabric of our community. With this assessment we can prioritize what is needed to ensure that miSci continues to serve as a beacon of education and innovation for years to come.”

“The RFP is out and we look forward to receiving responses from engineering firms by early June,” said Gary Hughes, Chair of the Schenectady County Legislature. “The goal is to determine the best path forward to help miSci attract more visitors and protect its extensive collections keeping them safe and preserving key parts of Schenectady’s heritage.”

The RFP calls for firms to evaluate the building’s exterior and interior structural components, plus mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems, identification of any deficiencies, and preparation of a detailed report with recommendations.

The RFP was prepared by a team comprised of the County’s Department of Economic Development, and Facilities Department, Metroplex, miSci and Assemblyman Santabarbara’s office.
