Rotterdam, N.Y. — Home Depot wants to lease warehouse space in Rotterdam, an apparent step by the home improvement retail chain to have more inventory available in the region to speed up customer delivery.

Rotterdam Ventures Inc., part of the Galesi Group, is finishing construction of a 250,000-square-foot warehouse at the Rotterdam Corporate Park.

The company asked the Rotterdam Planning Commission for a site plan waiver to allow Home Depot to occupy 62,500 square feet in the building.

Galesi Group CEO Dave Buicko said he believes Home Depot will use the warehouse to have more products closer to its customers, but doesn’t know the specific plans. Smaller distribution centers are becoming increasingly common as a way for big retailers to fulfill same- and next-day deliveries.
