September 10, 2014

Schenectady, N.Y., September 10, 2014 — The Schenectady County Metroplex Development Authority today approved a $175,000 grant for CTDI in Glenville, NY.  Metroplex also announced plans by the company to lease an additional 21,000 square feet of space at the Glenville Business and Technology Park.  The expansion will add another 20 full-time jobs within the facility.

Metroplex Chair Ray Gillen said, “We just welcomed CTDI to Schenectady County earlier this year. Their new building looks great and it is exciting for our economic development team to have this company expand and take an additional 21,000 square feet of space within their first few months of operation in Glenville.”

Empire State Development President, CEO & Commissioner Kenneth Adams said: “CTDI’s expansion in Schenectady County is great news for the region.  We applaud CTDI for its continued commitment to growing in New York and creating even more jobs, and we thank all the supporting partners involved in bringing this company to the Capital Region.”

Earlier this year, Governor Andrew M. Cuomo announced that Communications Test Design Inc. (CTDI), a leader in global engineering, repair, logistics and product manufacturing in the communications industry, would establish its new operations center in Schenectady County.  At that time, CTDI signed a lease to occupy 130,000 square feet of space in a new building to be built by the Galesi Group.  The CTDI project represented a total investment of $11.4 million and 150 new jobs.

Construction of the CTDI building began last December and finished on schedule in July.

“Having our new facility strategically located in Schenectady County to support the Northeastern U.S. geography enabled us to offer a new service program to a very important CTDI customer from our state-of-the-art Glenville operation.” stated Paul Cardell, Vice President of Corporate Operations at CTDI. “The facility is world-class and we have had very good success in recruiting the skilled staff from the local market that we need to effectively run the operation. CTDI is very excited about our new Glenville operation and we are confident that our business and our workforce in the region will continue to grow as additional business opportunities with existing and new CTDI customers present themselves in the future.”

CTDI provides one-stop service solutions to the global telecommunications industry. The company considered sites throughout the Northeastern United States before selecting Schenectady County for the new facility.  CTDI is headquartered in West Chester, Pa., and supports an expanding customer base with more than 7,800 employees in 70 facilities worldwide. The Glenville Business and Technology Park is home to more than 3.5 million square feet of space on 310 acres making it one of the largest business parks in the Capital Region.  The Business Park is home to Adirondack Beverages, Dimension Fabricators, Old Dominion, DHA Energy, Latham Plastics, Norampac, Codino’s, Specialty Quality Packaging, Thyssen Krupp Safeway, Capovani Brothers, Chick Packaging/NEFAB and others.

In other action, the Metroplex Board approved a contract award of $309,000 to Jersen Construction to replace sidewalks and improve the streetscape around the main branch of the Schenectady County Library.  The Board also approved a $241,000 increase for the lower State Street improvement work currently underway and approved the submittal of a $250,000 grant application to National Grid to help support redevelopment efforts on lower State Street.
