SCHENECTADY, N.Y. — Schenectady County leaders started the 4th of July weekend with a blast of positive job news as final agreements were signed today that will relocate Momentive’s corporate headquarters to Niskayuna where the company will build a new state of the art R&D facility bringing 200 new high paying jobs to Schenectady County.  In addition, the SI Group will maintain a major presence in the County by moving 100 corporate staff to Mohawk Harbor, Schenectady’s successful waterfront development.

Anthony Jasenski, Chairman of the Schenectady County Legislature said, “Momentive is a global leader in advanced materials and after an extensive search the company has selected Schenectady County for its new corporate headquarters.  We thank Momentive for giving us the opportunity to host their new headquarters and R&D facility.  We also thank SI Group for retaining key corporate staff and its large manufacturing plant in Rotterdam Junction ensuring that a company started in Schenectady more than 100 years ago will continue to be a valued member of our community.”

Momentive is a global high-performance silicones and specialty solutions company that considered numerous locations for its new headquarters before selecting the Schenectady County site, an 81-acre campus previously owned by the SI Group.  In addition to moving its headquarters, Momentive plans to construct a new R&D center.  Approximately 200 corporate and R&D/technology employees will relocate from Waterford, NY to Niskayuna.

With Momentive moving to the Balltown Road campus, the SI Group considered leasing Class A office space at many different locations before selecting Mohawk Harbor. The move to Mohawk Harbor keeps SI Group corporate staff in Schenectady County along with the company’s 72-acre manufacturing facility in Rotterdam Junction.

Ray Gillen, Metroplex Chair said, “Our economic development team worked very hard to fill the more than 120,000 square feet of office and lab space in Niskayuna and we are thrilled to have Momentive establish its headquarters and build a new research center at this site.  At Mohawk Harbor, we continue the momentum at Schenectady’s successful waterfront by bringing 100 new jobs to enjoy all the amenities at this destination development.”

Niskayuna Town Supervisor Jaime Puccioni said, “From my first day at Town Hall I have stayed in constant contact with the County’s economic development team to make sure that this key 81- acre parcel in our Town continued to be an R&D center joining GE and KAPL in Niskayuna’s high-tech corridor. I am so pleased to join the County in welcoming Momentive’s headquarters and new research center and I am thankful to the County for working so diligently to get this deal done.”

Gary McCarthy, Mayor of Schenectady said, “We thank Metroplex and the Galesi Group for bringing a great company, the SI Group, back to the City of Schenectady where the company was founded.  This will bring even more activity to our busy waterfront and shows that Schenectady continues to compete for and win new jobs and investment.”
