New Army Reserve Center in Niskayuna

Statement from Susan Savage, Chairwoman of the Schenectady County Legislature

February 15, 2011

Statement from Susan Savage, Chairwoman of the Schenectady County Legislature, Regarding President Obama’s Inclusion of $20 million for a New Army Reserve Center in Niskayuna.

“Senator Schumer has relayed to us the great news that the President’s budget includes $20 million for a new Army Reserve Center at the Niskayuna Commerce Park on Hillside Avenue.  Our economic development team has been working with Army officials on this project since last summer. The new building will be set back further from the road to meet force security measures.  The new facility will be a modern training center for Army Reserve units. The new Reserve Center represents a major new investment in Schenectady County. It will be similar to the outstanding success we have experienced with the new Navy Reserve Center in Glenville and will further strengthen the important role that Schenectady County plays in our national defense.”
