Schenectady County, N.Y. — Schenectady County officials today announced plans by Richmor Aviation to build a new 20,000 square foot hangar at the Schenectady County Airport. The new hangar represents a $1.2 million investment by Richmor. The new hangar will be designed to accommodate up to four business jets and is targeted to serve technology companies in the Capital Region.
“We are pleased to join with Richmor to announce plans to construct a new 20,000 square foot hangar at the County Airport.,” said Marty Finn, Chairman of the County Legislature’s Committee on Economic Development. “The new hangar and other developments in and around the airport continue the momentum being created up and down Rt. 50 by the County’s unified economic development team.”
The Schenectady County Legislature will consider amendments to the County’s existing lease with Richmor to allow for construction of the new hangar to be completed this year.

Richmor is based in Hudson, NY at the Columbia County Airport. They also have operations at Stewart International Airport. The company was founded in 1967. At the Schenectady County Airport, Richmor operates on a 24 acre site located on the flight line. The company operates over 64,000 square feet of hangar and office space which will be expanded to over 84,000 square feet when the new hangar is completed. Richmor serves as the Fixed Base Operator (FBO) at the Schenectady County Airport providing fueling and other support services to visiting aircraft as well as aircraft based at the airport.
Richmor also offers a flight school for pilots in Schenectady in association with the Schenectady County Community College (SCCC). In addition, Richmor provides support to SCCC’s air traffic controller program based at the airport.
The new hangar will be constructed by Plank Construction based in Schenectady.
Schenectady County owns and operates the airport which is home to the Stratton Air National Guard Base, an Armed Forces Reserve Center, an Airport Business Park and the County’s ice hockey facility.
The Route 50 corridor which services the airport has seen over $50 million in new investments in recent years including a new Target and related retail development, the new Armed Forces Reserve Center, a new Fortitech distribution center, Mohawk Honda’s new location and a new mixed use office, retail and residential building that will break ground shortly at Socha Plaza as well as other planned developments.
The County has three shovel ready sites ready for development located next to Richmor’s facility. Additional infrastructure work is planned for the airport this year including a new sewer line, a road extension to open up more sites for development both on the flightline and at the Airport Business Park and upgrades to the runway apron area.
