Nico’s Roof Top Tavern Soars over Downtown Schenectady

September 24, 2013

Nico’s roof Top Tavern celebrated its grand opening at 441 State Street, Schenectady with a ribbon cutting hosted by The Chamber of Schenectady County on September 24, 2013. The ribbon cutting was sponsored by McNamee, Lochner, Titus & Williams, PC.

Owner Phillip Ruggerio started his career as a student bartender prior to completing his education at SUNY Albany for math and physics. Upon graduation, he couldn’t find a job in his field. At the time, his friend was working at Nico’s and encouraged Phillip to take the shop over. Phillip thought, “Why not?” but certainly didn’t expect to still be making pizzas 17 years later!

Phillip enjoyed the work, the employees and the customers so much that he couldn’t leave. “I saw Schenectady change over the years and felt that I had to become part of the community,” said Ruggerio. He knew that the timing was right to expand the business and built two additional floors atop the pizzeria, adding on a 42 foot bar and rooftop patio.

Nico’s prides itself on offering high-quality food at the best prices around. Phillip and his staff strive to make everyone feel comfortable, and it shows in their excellent service and hospitality.

Phillip decided to expand his business in Schenectady because he sees how much the City and County are improving. After being in the same place for 17 years, he has seen the recent growth and feels proud to be part of it. In addition, he wanted to personally reinvest in Schenectady and the building that has served him so well over the years.

Nico’s Roof Top Tavern is open Sunday through Wednesday from 11 a.m. to 12 midnight, Thursday, Friday and Saturday from 11 a.m. to 2 a.m.
