Persian Bite Finds New Home in Downtown Schenectady

(Schenectady, NY) – The Downtown Schenectady Improvement Corporation (DSIC) is pleased to announce that popular downtown restaurant Persian Bite, which was located at 96 Jay Street, will soon reopen at 703 Union Street on downtown’s “Restaurant Row.”

Owner Reza Davaryzand said, “We are thrilled to have found a new home on this section of Union Street near Café NOLA, The Bier Abbey, Marotta’s Bar-Risto, and Manhattan Exchange. The new location gives us more space and allows us to create a new look and layout for the restaurant.” He added, “We are humbled by the outpouring of support from the Schenectady community. We can’t wait to welcome everyone back to Persian Bite.” Reza also plans to convert the building’s second floor into his family’s new downtown residence.

Persian Bite was one of seven affected businesses to benefit from April’s “Taking Care of Business” fundraiser coordinated by the DSIC. The effort raised more than $51,000 in donations from individuals, companies, and organizations, including a $25,000 matching donation from Neil and Jane Golub.

Lower Union Street is also home to restaurants Centre Street Pub and Canvas, Corks & Forks. This fall, French restaurant Chez Nous will open near Persian Bite at 707 Union Street. Lower Union Street is also adjacent to North Jay Street’s Little Italy neighborhood and restaurants such as More Perreca’s, Cornell’s, and Civitello’s. The Schenectady Metroplex Development Authority and City of Schenectady recently announced a $1.811 million improvement of lower Union Street this summer from Erie Boulevard to Park Place, as well as along Yates Street between Union and Franklin Streets.

Renovations to 703 Union Street will continue over the next several weeks. A summer opening is planned.
