Riverside Maple Farms Opens Sugarhouse for Maple Syrup and Maple Products

Public is invited to tour working sugarhouse, visit year-round retail store located on Route 5 in Glenville’s growing agritourism district

Glenville, NY – Riverside Maple Farms today announced the opening of its maple sugarhouse in the Town of Glenville, which will offer tours of a working facility that produces maple syrup, candies, maple spread, maple sugar and other products, as well as a retail store that will be open to serve the public year round.

Located on a 30-acre site at 7152 Amsterdam Road (Route 5) in the town’s growing agritourism district, Riverside Maple Farms is owned and operated by the Welch family, and supplied by 260 acres of maple trees that the family owns nearby.

Erica and Chris Welch, founders of Riverside Maple Farms, said, “We are thrilled to share generations of expertise in family maple syrup production with the local community, and we look forward to being part of the thriving business environment in Schenectady County and exciting agritourism district in the Town of Glenville.”

A new 5,300-square-foot facility has been constructed to show the entire maple product production process, demonstrating how tree sap is harvested and boiled down to produce syrup – in fact, it takes roughly 40 gallons of sap to produce one gallon of syrup. Tours will provide a family-friendly experience and samples to visitors, and an adjacent retail store will offer customers an opportunity to enjoy fresh maple products throughout the year.

“Riverside Maple Farms is a perfect fit in what is becoming a growing agritourism destination corridor in our town,” said Glenville Town Supervisor Chris Koetzle. “We’re proud to have worked with the Welches to help bring this unique experience to Glenville and look forward to seeing them prosper and grow in the future.”

“Schenectady County welcomes Riverside Maple Farms to our growing list of unique and exciting tourist destinations,” said Legislator Cathy Gatta, Chair of the Committee on Tourism, Arts & Special Events. “We thank the Welches for their investment in Glenville and look forward to working with them to promote this great new attraction.”

The Wolf Hollow Brewing Company is located on Route 5 near Riverside Maple Farms. Both companies are focused on driving agritourism business to the Town of Glenville and Schenectady County, attracting customers who want to experience firsthand how products are made.

“Wolf Hollow Brewing Company is thrilled to welcome Riverside Maple Farms to the neighborhood on Route 5. My partners and I are excited to have another craft business in the area that will offer a unique and rich experience for our community and those that travel here,” said Pete Bednarek, co-owner of Wolf Hollow Brewing. “Erica and Chris have put a tremendous amount of effort and energy into the sugarhouse, which is going to be a perfect addition to Glenville and Schenectady County.”

“We want to express our appreciation to Ray Gillen and the Schenectady County Metroplex Development Authority, Supervisor Chris Koetzle and the Town of Glenville, and our family and friends for the incredible support they have provided to help turn our dream into reality,” added Erica and Chris Welch.

Riverside Maple Farms is open to the public Thursdays through Sundays from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
