Schenectady County Approves Loan for New Business on Hamburg Street

Schenectady, N.Y., November 16, 2007 — Schenectady County officials today announced approval of a loan for $33,000 that will bring a new retail business to the Hamburg Street corridor. County officials are working closely with the Hamburg Street Merchants Association to bring new stores, offices and customers to this key commercial corridor.

The new store to be called Tootsie’s Treasures located at 2257 Hamburg Street has received approval for a $33,000 loan from the Schenectady County Community Business Center (SCCBC). Tootsie’s Treasures specializes in new and previously owned furniture and collectibles. The new store will feature both new retail items and consignments. It will fill space that is being vacated as Christopher’s Tuxedos moves to larger space on Hamburg Street.

“I am very excited to begin this venture and I appreciate the support of Schenectady County’s small business loan fund,” said store owner Nancie Grenier.

Tony Jasenski, County Legislator from Rotterdam said, “Hamburg Street is banding together with the County to recruit new business and make this a vibrant commercial district. We welcome this new store to Hamburg Street.”

SCCBC is the Schenectady County’s one-stop center for small businesses. SCCBC provides space for lease, mentoring and technical assistance, as well as small business loans to help start-up as well as existing small businesses throughout Schenectady County.
