Schenectady County to Host Public Meeting to Discuss Proposed Trail Crossing Improvements in Rotterdam

March 24, 2014

(Schenectady County, NY)  Schenectady County will be hosting a public meeting on Tuesday, April 1, 2014 to discuss proposed trail crossing improvements at State Rt. 5S in Rotterdam. The meeting will be held at 7:00 PM at the Rotterdam Junction Firehouse, 1215 Main Street, Rotterdam Junction.

The project’s goal is to improve safety when trail users cross NYS Route 5S on the Mohawk Hudson Bike Trail.  The project is a Locally Administered Federal Project funded with federal highway funds (80%) and County funds (20%).  The total budget for design and construction is $148,000.

The proposed design will realign the trail crossing to provide a safer crossing of the roadway, while slowing trail traffic as it approaches the crossing.  New signage will be placed on both trail approaches and the roadway to alert motorists and trail users of the crossing. Guide signs directing trail users to the Rotterdam Kiwanis Park will be installed at the improved crossing to deter trail users from parking in areas adjacent to the trail crossing.

The new trail crossing plan will be available for review at the meeting. A brief presentation on the project will be followed by public comment. For more information please contact Steve Feeney at the Schenectady County Department of Economic Development and Planning at 518-386-2225.
