Schenectady County’s Glendale Home Ranked 36th Best Nursing Home in New York State by Newsweek

October 15, 2020

Schenectady, N.Y. — Schenectady County’s Glendale Home was named the 36th best nursing home in New York State, by Newsweek for 2021.1

“We are very proud to earn this distinction from Newsweek,” said Anthony Jasenski, Chair of the Schenectady County Legislature. “It’s a true testament to the commitment of our staff and the quality of care they provide to our residents. On behalf of my colleagues, I want to thank all of our Glendale employees for their hard work and congratulate them for earning this recognition.”

In 2009, at a time when the number of county nursing homes in New York State decreased,2 the Schenectady County Legislature voted to authorize the construction of a new Glendale Nursing Home at the site of the former home. Since opening in May of 2014, the Glendale Home has operated at nearly 100 percent capacity.

“The Glendale Home is one of the County’s greatest assets. It’s never easy when a loved one has to move into a care facility, but having the option to age safely close to home, friends and family can help,” said County Legislator Michelle Ostrelich, Chair of the Health and Human Services Committee. “At a time when many counties were looking to get out of the nursing home business, Schenectady County made a commitment to our residents to provide that opportunity, and this ranking goes to show that it has paid off.”

In addition to being named the 36th best nursing home in New York State by Newsweek, in April of 2020, the Center for Medicare & Medicaid Services awarded Schenectady County’s Glendale Home with a 4-star rating, out of a possible 5. Information about the 5-star rating system is available at: www.cms.gov/Medicare/Provider-Enrollment-and-Certification/CertificationandComplianc/FSQRS.
