Schenectady, N.Y. — StackNexus — a Salesforce partner that builds applications for public sector clients — is expanding in Schenectady, with plans to move into the New York BizLab.

The company will lease about 2,500 square feet on the third floor of the BizLab — the same office its CEO, Suman Akula, previously occupied with his former company, sCube.

StackNexus is a new company from Akula, focusing on Salesforce applications and artificial intelligence. Akula said the company has 54 employees — 28 in the United States and 25 employees working in India and one employee in Dubai.

He expects to hire around 15 more employees in Schenectady next year. The office at the New York BizLab can hold up to 25 employees, with others working remote across the U.S.

The growth is stemming from a new area for StackNexus— creating 311 applications that can be built into the Salesforce platform. 311 is the non-emergency phone number that people can call to find information about services, make complaints, or report problems like graffiti or pot holes.

Akula said building 311 applications offers a huge growth opportunity for the still young company, which got its start in 2017. His goal for 2020 is to hire 20 new team members overall for this product. Akula also said he intends to get more work from private companies as the organization grows.
