Statement by Ray Gillen, Chair, Schenectady County Metroplex Development Authority, on Schenectady Armory Auction Results

July 24, 2012

Schenectady, N.Y. — We are very pleased to see Ray and Jeff Legere submit the winning bid for the former NYS Armory in Schenectady. The Legeres have 25 years experience with project development, construction and historical renovation projects. They did a fantastic job restoring the former Finserv Building on Erie Boulevard. The Legeres are known for their detailed work including recent renovations to the Lawrence the Indian statue in the Stockade. They have the experience to do a great job with the former Armory.

The new owners want to use the building as a sports facility that will host basketball, lacrosse, volleyball and other activities from practices to tournaments. This will bring more people to downtown and that will help us continue our redevelopment efforts.
