Schenectady County Legislator Gary Hughes, Chair of the Economic Development & Planning Committee

“The County Legislature optioned the former Mohawk Auto Center on State Street with the express goal of bringing a grocery store to this site. We are grateful to Governor Hochul and Empire State Development for providing this $2.75 million grant and thank our economic development team at Metroplex for submitting the winning application. This grant will dramatically improve our chances of signing a lease with a national grocery chain, a major step forward to making this project a reality, increasing access to healthy, fresh foods in our neighborhoods.”

Mayor Gary McCarthy

“The Restore NY program is a great asset to communities like Schenectady and we are so pleased to win this large grant that will boost our efforts to attract a grocery store to a site that borders both State and Albany Streets adjacent to downtown and Hamilton Hill. This is further proof that Schenectady is moving in the right direction. We thank Governor Hochul and ESD for funding this grant application.”

Ray Gillen, Schenectady County Metroplex Development Authority

“Our unified County economic development team is thrilled to learn that our Restore NY grant application has been approved. We thank all of our partners who worked together to submit another winning grant application.”
