Town of Rotterdam Seeks Bidders for Curry Road Plaza

June 13, 2012

Schenectady County, N.Y. —  The Town of Rotterdam, in partnership with Schenectady County, will issue a Request for Proposals (RFP) on Curry Road Plaza following approval by the Town Board on Wednesday, June 13, 2012.

Town and County Economic Development and Planning staff worked together to develop an RFP for the 12 acre site. Responses to the RFP are due at Town Hall by 2:00 PM on Friday July 13, 2012.

The Town is looking for developers to acquire and demolish buildings on site and then redevelop the property adding tax base and jobs to Rotterdam.

Town Supervisor Harry Buffardi said, “Curry Road Plaza has been an eyesore in Rotterdam for many years. Our goal is to work with the County to get activity going so that demolition can move forward followed by redevelopment of the property.”

Judy Dagostino, Chairwoman of the Schenectady County Legislature said, “By working together with the Town, we hope to fix this area that has been vacant and in poor condition for too long. This is something that all of Rotterdam wants.”

The Town will evaluate responses to the RFP based on the price offered for the site. They will also evaluate the overall positive impact of the proposed use of the site on residents with regard to jobs, investment and new tax base.

An extensive environmental cleanup has been completed readying the site for redevelopment. A one-half acre parcel is limited with a deed restriction to commercial development only while the rest of the site is available for commercial or residential development.

Anyone interested in receiving a copy of the RFP should contact Peter Comenzo in the Planning Department at Town Hall.
