Transformation Continues at Schenectady County Community College

October 2, 2012

SCHENECTADY, N.Y.Schenectady County Community College (SCCC) Faculty Student Association has released a Request for Proposal (RFP) for Construction Management Services regarding renovations of the former Student Commons and Lounge in Elston Hall, the site of the historic Van Curler Hotel.  This new project, with a gross square footage of 3,000 square feet, will include a new WiFi Café, a convenience store, storage, restrooms, an office, an outdoor patio, and a new sidewalk.

The Faculty Student Association (FSA) retained ENVISION Architects as architect for this project and is seeking a construction manager for pre-construction services to support cost control efforts and assist in developing an optimal implementation strategy and advancing the project towards design and construction.

“Exciting times continue here at Schenectady County Community College as we begin our next campus project with the renovations in Elston Hall,” said Denise Murphy McGraw, chairwoman of the Board of Trustees.  “Our recent opening of the College Suites at Washington Square coupled with the overall enrollment increase, shows that our campus continues to grow.  The café and convenience store at the same site that served as the bar and lounge at the Van Curler Hotel will serve as a central location to the student commons and housing, allowing our students to enjoy specialty coffees and signature sandwiches.  It will also allow the college to move forward while honoring the great history of our community.”

“We are excited to offer the convenience store and café to the college community and guests,” said Dr. Quintin Bullock, President of SCCC. “This space will provide an additional resource for students to purchase the necessary items needed for their living spaces, as well as a gathering place for students to meet and study with their peers.”
