The mission of the Schenectady Metroplex Development Authority is to enhance the long-term economic vitality and quality of life in Schenectady County by cooperative, purposeful actions and investments within the Metroplex service area with particular emphasis on downtown Schenectady. In order to obtain Metroplex financial assistance, projects must be located in the Metroplex service area.
The Metroplex service area broadly covers the corridor along Route 5 from the Albany County line (State Street) to Montgomery County (Scotia and Glenville); and on Route 7 from the City of Schenectady/Town of Rotterdam border to Schoharie County. The Metroplex service area is not required to be continuous or contiguous. Since its inception in 1998, the Metroplex service area has more than doubled – expanding from 15,166 acres to 53,793 acres (23.7 square miles to 84.1 square miles).
