City of Schenectady to Sell 11 properties for $226,500

Brings new Owner-Occupants to City as part of Mayor McCarthy's HOMES Program

Schenectady, NY – Mayor Gary McCarthy today announced that the City of Schenectady will sell eleven (11) properties collecting $226,500 for the city while supporting more owner-occupied housing in the city. The property sales continue the Mayor’s Home Ownership Made Easy in Schenectady (HOMES) program.

“We are taking city-owned buildings and getting them back in the hands of new owner occupants who will renovate them and help us continue the revitalization of Schenectady,” Mayor McCarthy said.

Schenectady has launched a major neighborhood revitalization effort using $7 million for demolition of properties that are beyond repair, while working closely with new owner/occupants and responsible landlords who want to renovate houses. As part of the HOMES program, many city-owned properties are being professionally marketed with a focus on attracting owner-occupied buyers. The eleven (11) properties include:

• 218-220 Duane Ave. – 1,900 square foot two family home sold for $30,000 to new owner occupant.

• 2334 Campbell Ave. – 2,436 square foot two family home sold for $5,000 to new owner occupant.

• 27 Brown Street – 1,140 square foot single family home that was damaged by fire sold for $2,000 to a new owner occupant.

• 1571 Becker Street – 1,974 square foot three unit property sold for $30,000 to new owner occupant.

• 1192 Parkwood Blvd. – 3,212 square foot two family home sold for $40,000 to a landlord who will lease the property.

• 109 Van Ryn Ave. – 1,344 square foot single family home sold for $45,000 to a new owner occupant.

• 655 Lansing Street – 6-unit apartment building sold for $15,000 to a new owner who plans to rehab the building and lease out the units.

• 1834 Hamburg Street – 1,672 square foot two family home sold for $22,500 to a new owner occupant who plans to move to the property and convert it to a one-family.

• 1605 Foster Ave. – 2,468 square foot two family home sold for $12,000 to new owner occupant.

• 4 Elmer Ave. is the former Danny’s Ice Cream a 1,681 square foot mixed-use building that sold for $20,000. The new owner plans to renovate and lease the property.

One commercial property was also included in the sale. The former Carlton Restaurant at 1605 Becker Street with 1,641 square feet sold for $5,000. The new owner plans to renovate the property as a restaurant.

The Schenectady City Council approved the eleven (11) property sales last evening.
