Loft Apartments Planned for Downtown Schenectady

Upper Floors of 409 State Street to Host Seven Upscale Units

March 1, 2012

Schenectady, N.Y. — Metroplex and the Galesi Group today announced plans to convert the upper floors of 409 State Street in downtown Schenectady to loft apartments.

The first floor at 409 State is occupied by offices.  The second floor features very high ceilings making the space very well suited for loft conversion.  The Galesi Group will develop seven apartments including a mix of one and two bedroom units.

“It is so important that we have attractive housing options for those being hired by our growing businesses throughout the County, especially the new high-tech jobs that are being created,” said Judy Dagostino, Chairwoman of the Schenectady County Legislature.  “This new residential housing will bring new customers to our retail businesses and contribute to the vibrancy of our rejuvenated downtown.”

Mayor Gary McCarthy said, “We welcome this latest investment by the Galesi Group in our resurgent downtown. This project will help us create more opportunities to bring young tech workers, grad students and others into the downtown area which continues to see growth and development.”

David M. Buicko, Chief Operating Officer of the Galesi Group said, “409 State Street is directly right across the street from Proctors, Aperitivo, the Bow Tie Cinema and is located next to the Paul Mitchell School and our new downtown YMCA.  We feel these units will be a great addition to the continued growth of downtown, which we are pleased and proud to support.”

Ray Gillen, Schenectady County Metroplex Chair, “Once again, we see the Galesi Group leading the way to invest in projects that are helping to make downtown a great work and live environment.  409 State Street is an ideal fit for upper floor apartments.”

The Galesi Group will work with Bonacio Construction and Re4orm Architecture to complete the planned improvements. Work is expected to be completed by early fall 2012.
