Metroplex Completes Clean-Up of Former McDonald’s Site in Scotia

Schenectady, N.Y. – The Schenectady County Metroplex Development Authority today announced that environmental clean-up work has been completed at the former McDonald’s site at 25 Mohawk Avenue in the Village of Scotia. The project was completed on time and under budget by Metroplex.

The clean-up included the removal of 1,100 tons of petroleum impacted soil. In addition, three underground storage tanks each capable of storing 1,000 gallons were emptied and were safely removed from the site including two gas tanks and an oil tank. Metroplex worked with CT Male and several environmental contractors to clean-up the site.

Earlier this year, County officials announced that McDonald’s agreed to sell to Metroplex for $1 the site on Mohawk Avenue, the main business corridor in Scotia. Metroplex’s goal was to complete the clean up this year for $250,000 and then sell the site to Mazzone Management Group adding to redevelopment efforts in the Village of Scotia while recouping its clean-up costs. The clean-up cost Metroplex $213,824 and was completed on schedule.

“I congratulate our County economic development team for the successful clean-up of the former McDonald’s site in Scotia. This effort has now created a shovel-ready site that will be a catalyst for additional development along Mohawk Avenue that will benefit the Village and all of Schenectady County,” said Marty Finn, Chair of the Schenectady County Legislature’s Committee on Economic Development. “

Metroplex has a successful track record in remediating and redeveloping brownfield sites in Schenectady County including the former Big N Plaza, the Alco site, several major lots downtown, the former Capitol Plaza in Rotterdam, a former gas station where the new SCCC housing is located, sites on Technology Drive in Schenectady and the former Marks property in Duanesburg.

Mohawk Avenue is the main business corridor in the Village of Scotia which has been the focus of recent redevelopment efforts including multiple façade improvements, the new $8 million Scotia Manor Apartments and other new investments.

Metroplex plans to complete the sale of the former McDonald’s site to Mazzone Management Group later this year.
