Metroplex to Outline Plans for Jay Street and Alco Trail DRI Projects

May 21, 2024

Schenectady, N.Y. – The Schenectady County Metroplex Development Authority will host a public meeting to outline plans for upgrading Jay Street and extending the Alco Heritage Trail. Both projects are part of the NYS Downtown Revitalization Initiative (DRI) grant awarded to Schenectady.

“We look forward to receiving public input as we prepare to construct two more projects funded by Schenectady’s DRI award,” said David Hogenkamp, Metroplex Executive Director.

The meeting will be held on Tuesday, May 28, 2024, from 4:30 pm to 6:30 pm at the McChesney Room at the Karen B Johnson Central Library. The public will get a chance to view preliminary concepts and provide feedback on two projects:

Jay Street Pedestrian Walkway Project – making improvements to public space on Jay Street including adding amenities and lighting.

Alco Heritage Trail Extension and Alco Heritage Tunnel Project – improving the connectivity between Mohawk Harbor and downtown Schenectady. These projects will extend the Alco Heritage Trail and will re-open the Alco Tunnel for improved pedestrian access.

Preliminary concepts for the projects can also be viewed on the Metroplex website (www.schenectadymetroplex.org). Feedback is welcome. Please contact 518-377-1109 ext. 3 or send comments to info@schenectadymetroplex.org.
